Introduction

Social Book-marking and Aggregators

Delicious2

Web 2.0 is characterized by the read/write Web (a two-way medium) where people are both readers and writers, and the Web as a platform where developers create software applications and web services. Social software allows people to communicate, collaborate, organise their content and connect through their content. Social book-marking and aggregators are two examples identified for this workshop that can assist busy educators in professional and student learning.

Social book-marking software, such as Del.icio.us, allows teachers and students to bookmark and share their favourite websites, which can be accessed from any computer and home or at school. An aggregator such as Bloglines or Netvibes brings the content from your favourite websites to one place and enables you to read it at your own convenience.

This workshop offers background information on social book-marking and aggregators, followed by a presentation from Greg Carroll with practical examples to support the professional learning of busy teachers and principals. We invite and encourage you to ask questions or share experience in the workshop forum.
